There’s a lot of buzz today about Amazon Prime Day around town and, well, all over the internet. 😉 Everyone loves a good deal and the annual event that Amazon holds sports some pretty deep savings on many items. For example, check out this hot product at 44% off! I’ve been wanting one for a year and finally got it today with a deal too good to pass up. I’m pretty sure it’s going to become one of my “can’t live without”
While it’s common in most places to pay a yearly membership fee, in the north its one of the very few things you can still get for FREE with no strings attached! In order to get your library card you will need photo ID and to be planning to be an Iqaluit resident for 6 months or more and then you are set! They offer a variety of reading material in 3 languages: English, French,
This past weekend we had incredible weather and it was still feeling like summer and got me craving some summer treats! Since most sweet treats available locally are an expensive “luxury” I was super excited to try out my Zipzicles * from Amazon and make my own frugal frozen treat! Have you seen these? They are genius! They are like mini ziploc bags but made in the shape of a freezie!
Theres no doubt that the cost of internet in the north is high, but the “luxury” of internet certainly makes life in the north more comfortable when you can feel connected with the rest of the world, despite the geographic isolation. So, to make the most of your internet and to save your pocketbook, you want to be sure every megabyte counts and ensure that you dont have programs running in the background secretly using up your bandwidth.
When we moved up north everything our family owned fit into a few pieces of luggage! We paid our own moving expenses and did not have the option of sea lift from where we were moving from, so we arrived with only the basics in our checked baggage. It wasn’t long before we were settling in and wanting to turn our “house” into a “home” with personal touches to make our home cheerful and cozy.
Being the frugalist that I am, booking a car rental is not something I take lightly. Car rental is always one of our biggest expenses for our trips and so I am not hasty to make reservations without making sure that I am getting the best bang for my buck. Booking a car rental is usually an all day event for me, as I search the web fervently for the best deal.
Its no secret that living in the North is costly, to say the least. Prices for food and rent make national headlines as Canadians are shocked at the cost we Northerners pay on a daily basis. As Northerners we learn at times to improvise, we learn at times to go without, and we learn to think twice. Frugal living is something many Northerners are doing, whether they know it or not.
FRUGAL: an adjective describing careful use of money or supplies.
